Add header and footer to PDF
Add a header and a footer to every page of a PDF. Type a left, centre and right part for each, and put page, pages, date or file in curly brackets to fill in the page number, page count, date or file name. Nothing is uploaded.
How to add a header and footer to a PDF
- 1Drop your PDF in, or click to choose it
- 2Type the header and footer parts, left, centre and right
- 3Check the preview, press Apply, then save
- A PDF with your header and footer on the pages.
What happens to your files
- Nothing is uploaded.Your PDF is opened and changed by your browser, on your own device.
- You see it before it is written. The preview shows the text on each page until you press Apply.
- One undo step.Apply adds it as one change, and Undo takes it off again.
What you can do
- Fill six places: header left, centre, right and footer left, centre, right.
- Put page, pages, date or file in curly brackets to insert the page number, the page count, today's date or the file name.
- Set the size from 8 to 96 pt and pick a colour from the five swatches.
- Apply it to all pages, to the pages you picked in the thumbnails, or to a range such as 1-3, 5.
- Undo it, change the text and apply it again.
Good to know
- The size and colour apply to the header and the footer together.
- The page number and page count follow the pages the text is applied to, so a range such as 2-20 starts at 1 on page 2.
- The date is today's date, written in the format your browser's language suggests.
- The text goes into the page content, so Undo is the way back until you save. A password-protected PDF has to be opened without the password first.
- This is the tool for names, dates and file names. For page numbers alone, "Add page numbers to PDF" has more options.
