How to add page numbers to a PDF
- 1Drop your PDF in, or click to choose it
- 2Choose position, format and start number
- 3Check the preview, press Apply, then save
- A PDF with a number on every page you chose.
What happens to your files
- Nothing is uploaded.Your PDF is opened and changed by your browser, on your own device.
- Preview before you apply. The numbers show on the pages first, drawn at the real positions.
- Real text, one undo.Numbers are added as text, and Undo takes them off again.
What you can do
- Place the number at the bottom or top, left, centre or right: six positions.
- Pick a format: 1, Page 1, Page 1 of 9 or 1 / 9.
- Start at any number, for example 0 or 5, and skip the first page so the cover has none.
- Set the size from 8 to 96 pt and pick a colour.
- Number all pages, only the pages you picked in the thumbnails, or a range such as 3-10.
Good to know
- With "Skip the first page" the cover stays blank and the second page gets the start number.
- The total in "Page 1 of 9" counts the pages that get a number, so numbering only some pages gives a smaller total.
- If you merged several PDFs, number the merged file last so the numbers run through.
- A password-protected PDF has to be opened without the password first.
