Compress image to KB
Compress an image to a size in KB, for example under 200 KB for an upload form, and get the best quality that still fits. Type a target such as 200 KB or 1.5 MB, drop in your images and save. Nothing is uploaded: your browser does the work.
How to compress an image to 200 KB or less
- 1Drop your images in, or click to choose them
- 2Type the target size, for example 200 KB
- 3Press "Fit to size" and save the result
- Images at or under your target size, in the format you chose.
What happens to your files
- Nothing is uploaded.Your images are read and compressed by your browser, on your own device.
- Best quality that fits. The tool tries several qualities and keeps the highest one under your limit.
- Batch, one ZIP.Several images come back as one ZIP, all fitted to the same target.
What you can do
- Set the target as KB or MB, from 1 KB up. It starts at 200 KB.
- Save as JPG, WebP, AVIF, PNG or the same format as the original.
- Leave "Shrink the pixel size if needed" on and the tool also lowers the pixel size when quality alone cannot reach the target. The row shows the new size in pixels.
- Fill in "At least (optional)" for forms with a lower limit, like 20 to 50 KB. A JPG below it is padded up with a comment that does not change the picture.
- A file already under the target, in the right format, is kept as it is.
Good to know
- PNG gets there by using fewer colors, so it suits graphics better than photos.
- JPG turns transparency white.
- Only a JPG can be padded up to a lower limit. Other formats stay under it and the row says so.
- If a file cannot reach the target, the smallest result is still handed over and the row marks it. Switch the pixel shrinking on to get further.
- Very small targets, a few KB for a big photo, give a blurry picture.
Questions
How do I make a photo under 200 KB?
Drop it in, keep the target at 200 KB, choose JPG and press "Fit to size". The tool finds the highest quality that stays under it.
What if the form also wants a minimum size?
Type it into "At least (optional)". A JPG that comes out smaller is padded up to that size without changing how it looks.
Which format should I pick for the smallest file?
AVIF is smallest, WebP next, JPG works everywhere. For an upload form, JPG is the safe choice.
Can I do many images at once?
Yes. Add them all and you get one ZIP with every result.
