Image upscaler (AI)
Make a photo 2× or 4× bigger with an AI model (Real-ESRGAN) that draws in plausible detail instead of just stretching pixels. Drop in one image or many, drag the slider to compare before and after, and save. The model downloads once and your images are never uploaded.
How to upscale an image with AI
- 1Drop your images in, or click to choose them
- 2Choose 2× or 4× and the noise reduction
- 3Wait for the upscale, compare, then save
- A larger PNG, JPG or WebP, in the format you chose.
What happens to your files
- Nothing is uploaded. The model runs in your browser. Only the model itself, about 5 MB, is downloaded once.
- Compare before and after.A divider shows the original on one side and the upscaled image on the other.
- Fast on a graphics chip.It uses the graphics chip when the browser allows it, otherwise the processor.
What you can do
- Upscale 2× (double) or 4× (four times).
- Pick the noise reduction: light keeps grain and texture, medium is the default, strong suits noisy or heavily compressed photos.
- Save as PNG, JPG or WebP. Several images come as one ZIP.
- Compare with the divider, and zoom between "Fit" and "Actual size".
- Stop a running job, or upscale again with other settings.
Good to know
- The model downloads once, about 5 MB, the first time you add an image.
- The result can be very large: a 4× photo has sixteen times the pixels. If it would not fit, the tool offers 2× or shrinking the original first.
- On the processor, and especially on phones, a big photo can take many minutes.
- The model adds detail that looks right but was not in the original. Do not use it where exact detail matters.
- If your browser cannot open a file, convert it to JPG or PNG first.
Questions
How is this different from resizing?
Resizing stretches the pixels you have, so the picture gets soft. The AI model estimates the missing detail, so edges and texture look sharper.
Does it upload my photo?
No. After the model has downloaded, everything runs on your device.
Why is it slow?
The model does a lot of work per pixel. A graphics chip is much faster than the processor, and 2× is much quicker than 4×.
Which size should I pick?
Start with 2×. Use 4× for small images, such as a thumbnail or an old photo.
