Blur image
Blur an image as softly or as strongly as you like. One slider sets the strength, and the blurred picture updates as you move it. The whole picture is blurred at full size on your device and is not uploaded for processing.
How to blur an image
- 1Drop a picture in, or click to choose one
- 2Move the "Strength" slider until the blur looks right
- 3Press "Save picture"
- The whole picture blurred, at full size
What happens to your files
- Processed on your device.Your browser opens and blurs the picture. It is not uploaded for processing
- Full resolution. The saved file is blurred from the original's own pixels, at its full size
- A clean new file. The file is written fresh from the blurred pixels, so it carries no EXIF data, GPS position or preview of the original
What you can do
- Set the strength from 1 (barely soft) to 100 (only colors and shapes are left). It is a Gaussian blur, the smooth kind photo editors use
- The blur scales with the picture's size, so the saved file looks like the preview, and a small and a large copy of one photo come out equally blurred
- Tick "Show the original" to compare with the sharp picture
- Make a soft background for text or a slide, or a blurred placeholder for a photo
Good to know
- This tool blurs the whole picture. To blur or cover just one part, such as a face or a name, use "Censor part of image". A strong blur hides a lot, but only a black bar can't be guessed back
- The edges keep the picture's own brightness, with nothing dark creeping in from outside. See-through parts stay see-through, without a dark fringe
- JPG and iPhone photos (HEIC) are saved as JPG at quality 92. PNG, WebP and other formats are saved as PNG. "-blurred" is added to the name
- One picture at a time. Animated pictures and files with several pages don't open here. Pictures up to 200 megapixels open on a computer, up to 64 on a phone; above 50 (16 on a phone) the picture is scaled down first, and the tool tells you
Questions
How do I blur a picture?
Drop the picture in and move the "Strength" slider. The result updates as you go; press "Save picture" to keep it.
Can I blur only part of a picture?
Not with this tool, which always blurs the whole picture. "Censor part of image" blurs, pixelates or blacks out the areas you draw boxes over.
Can a blurred picture be made sharp again?
Not as it was. A light blur can be partly sharpened back, so for anything private use a strong blur or, better, a black bar.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Your browser opens and blurs the picture and writes the new file too.
