Rotate image
Rotate an image 90° to the left or right, or turn it upside down, at its full resolution. A sideways phone photo is turned upright first, and a PNG keeps every pixel exactly. The picture is processed on your device, not uploaded for processing.
How to rotate an image
- 1Drop a picture in or click to choose it
- 2Press "Rotate left", "Rotate right" or "Upside down (180°)"
- 3Press "Save picture"
- The picture, turned the way you chose
What happens to your files
- Processed on your device. The picture is opened, turned and saved in your browser. It is not uploaded for processing
- Exact quarter turns.Every pixel moves to its new place and nothing is smoothed or scaled
- A new file, without extras. The file is written new from the turned pixels: no EXIF data, no GPS position, no preview of the original
What you can do
- Turn a picture 90° to the left, 90° to the right or 180°. Press again to keep turning
- See the result before you save: the picture on the page turns with every press
- Straighten it by a few degrees as well under "Straighten", by any angle or by drawing a line along the horizon
- Fix the perspective of a photographed sheet or screen under "Perspective"
Good to know
- A JPG and an iPhone photo (HEIC) are saved as JPG at quality 92, PNG, WebP and other formats as PNG. The name gets "-rotated" added
- A phone often saves a photo lying down, with a note in its EXIF data on how to turn it. The saved file is turned in its pixels and has no such note, so it shows the same way in every program
- One picture at a time. Animated pictures and files with several pages are not opened
- Pictures up to 200 megapixels open on a computer and up to 64 on a phone
Questions
How do I rotate a photo that shows sideways?
Drop it in and press "Rotate right" or "Rotate left" until it stands upright, then press "Save picture".
Why is my photo upright here but sideways somewhere else?
Phones save a photo the way the sensor took it and add a note on how to turn it. Some programs ignore that note. The file saved here is turned in its pixels and has no note, so it looks the same everywhere.
Does rotating lower the quality?
A PNG keeps every pixel exactly. A JPG is saved as a new JPG at quality 92, which costs a little sharpness, as every new JPG does.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The picture is opened, turned and saved in your browser.
