Good to know

  • Lines are compared exactly. Apple and apple count as different lines, and so do two lines that differ by a trailing space. There is no case-insensitive option. Run Trim whitespace first to ignore stray spaces.
  • An empty line counts as a line too, so repeated blank lines are reduced to one. Remove empty lines takes out all of them.
  • The list is not sorted. Use Sort lines alphabetically if you want it in order.
  • Nothing is stored, so the text is gone when you close the page.

Questions

How do I remove duplicate lines from a list?

Paste the list into the input box. The result shows each line only once, in the order it first appeared.

Is it case-sensitive?

Yes. Apple and apple are kept as two lines. Convert the text to one case first, then remove the duplicates.

Does it keep the first or the last copy?

The first. Later repeats of the same line are dropped.

Does it sort my list?

No. The original order is kept. Use Sort lines alphabetically if you want it sorted.

Is my list uploaded?

No. It is processed in your browser, so the list stays on your device.
