Remove punctuation

Remove punctuation from text: periods, commas, question marks, quotes, brackets, hyphens and more are deleted while the words stay. Handy before word counts or text analysis. It runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

How to remove punctuation from text

  1. 1Paste your text into the Input box
  2. 2The Result box shows it without punctuation
  3. 3Click "Copy" to take the plain words
  4. Your words, without punctuation marks.

What you get

  • Nothing leaves your device. The marks are removed in your browser, not on a server.
  • Words and lines stay.Letters, digits, spaces and line breaks are not touched.
  • Instant result. It updates with every keystroke, with no button.

What you can do

  • Delete punctuation of many languages, such as . , ; : ! ? quotes, brackets, slashes and dashes.
  • Delete apostrophes and hyphens as well, so "don't" becomes "dont".
  • Prepare text for word counting, keyword lists or text analysis.
  • Copy the clean words with one click.

Good to know

  • Words joined by a hyphen or slash run together: "well-known" becomes "wellknown". Replace those with a space first if needed.
  • Symbols such as + = < > $ ^ ~ are not punctuation and stay.
  • A space next to a mark stays, so you may get double spaces. Use "Remove extra spaces" afterwards.
