Show invisible characters
Show invisible characters in any text: spaces, tabs, non-breaking spaces and zero-width characters turn into visible marks. Use it to find the stray character that breaks a copied text, a CSV or a search. Nothing is uploaded.
How to show invisible characters
- 1Paste or type your text into the Input box
- 2Read the marks in the Result box
- 3Copy the result, or fix the text and check again
- Your text with every hidden character marked.
What you get
- Nothing is uploaded.Your text is converted in your browser and never leaves your device.
- Four kinds of marks.Spaces, tabs, non-breaking spaces and zero-width characters each get a symbol.
- Updates as you type. The result changes with every keystroke, no button needed.
What you can do
- Spot double spaces and trailing spaces: every normal space shows as a middle dot (·).
- See tabs, which show as an arrow (→).
- Tell a non-breaking space from a normal one: it shows as ⍽.
- Find zero-width characters (zero-width space, joiners, direction marks, word joiner, byte order mark): they show as ¤.
Good to know
- Line breaks are kept as they are and not marked.
- Only the characters listed above get a mark. Other special spaces, such as the narrow no-break space, stay unchanged.
- The result is for looking, not for reuse: the marks replace the original characters.
Questions
How do I find a hidden character in my text?
Paste the text into the Input box. Every space, tab, non-breaking space and zero-width character shows up as a symbol in the Result box.
What is a zero-width space?
It is a character with no width, so you cannot see it. It often sneaks in when you copy from web pages or chat apps. Here it shows as ¤.
Why does my text look fine but still fail a comparison?
A non-breaking space or a zero-width character can look like nothing, yet differs from a normal space. Marking them shows the difference.
