Sort numbers

Sort numbers from smallest to largest. Paste a list, or even a text with numbers in it, and get the numbers back in numeric order, one per line. Negative numbers and decimals work too. Nothing is uploaded.

How to sort numbers

  1. 1Paste your numbers into the Input box
  2. 2The sorted numbers appear in the Result box
  3. 3Copy the result
  4. The numbers in ascending order, one per line.

What you get

  • Nothing is uploaded. The sorting happens in your browser and your numbers stay on your device.
  • Real numeric order.9 comes before 10, which a text sort gets wrong.
  • Finds numbers anywhere.Separate them by new lines, spaces, commas or any other text.

What you can do

  • Sort a list of whole numbers, negative numbers and decimals from smallest to largest.
  • Pick the numbers out of mixed text: everything that is not a number is dropped.
  • Read a decimal comma as well as a decimal point: 3,5 is treated as 3.5.
  • Get a clean one-number-per-line list to paste into a spreadsheet.

Good to know

  • The order is ascending only. For largest first, copy the result into Reverse lines.
  • Each number in the output is written with a decimal point, so 3,5 comes out as 3.5.
  • Numbers with thousands separators, such as 1,000 or 1.000, are read as decimals, so both count as 1, not as one thousand.
  • Words and other text are removed from the result. Duplicates are kept.

Questions

How do I sort a list of numbers from low to high?

Paste the numbers into the Input box. The Result box shows them in ascending order, one per line.

Why is this different from sorting lines alphabetically?

A text sort puts 10 before 9, because it compares character by character. This tool compares the values, so 9 comes first.

What happens to the text around my numbers?

It is removed. Only the numbers are kept, which also makes it a quick way to extract and sort numbers from a text.
