Trim video

Cut the start and end off a video, free and online. Drag two handles over a live preview and save. Trimming copies the picture without re-encoding, so it is quick and the quality stays the same. Nothing is uploaded.

How to trim a video

  1. 1Drop a video in, or click to choose one
  2. 2Drag the start and end handles to the part you want
  3. 3Click "Save video"
  4. A shorter video with the original quality.

What happens to your video

  • Nothing is uploaded.Your video is read and cut by your browser, on your own device.
  • No quality loss. The picture is copied, not re-encoded, so a trim takes seconds.
  • Frame-accurate preview.Moving a handle shows that frame, and playback stays in the kept part.

What you can do

  • Set the start and end with two handles. The result length is shown as you move them.
  • Use "Start here" and "End here" to set a handle at the frame you are watching.
  • Play the kept part in the preview before you save.
  • Rotate, mute or change the speed in the same step.
  • Open MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, M4V, 3GP and TS files.

Good to know

  • A trim alone is copied without re-encoding. Cuts in such a copy usually fall on the nearest point the format allows, so they may be a moment off.
  • The two handles cannot cross, and keep at least 0.1 seconds apart.
  • If you also change the speed, the video is re-encoded and takes longer. The window tells you.
  • The result is an MP4, or a WebM if the original was WebM or MKV, saved with "-edited" in its name.
  • It uses your graphics chip and works best in desktop Chrome or Edge.
