Data size converter

Convert data size units units online, free and without signing up: kilobytes, megabytes, gigabytes and terabytes. Type a value and the result appears as you type, together with the value in every other unit. Nothing is uploaded: the calculation runs in your browser.

How to use the Data size converter

  1. 1Type your value in the “Value” field
  2. 2Choose the units in “From” and “To”
  3. 3Read the result and the table of all units
  4. One result, and the value in every unit.

What happens to your numbers

  • Nothing is uploaded. The calculation runs in your browser, on your own device.
  • Every unit at once.A table shows your value in all the other data size units.
  • Works offline.Once the tool has been opened, it needs no connection.

What you can do

  • Convert between every pair of the units with one input: “From” and “To” can be any of them.
  • See your value in every data size unit at once in the table below the result.
  • Press “Swap” to turn the conversion around.
  • Type decimals or negative numbers and see the result as you type.

Good to know

  • The units are decimal: 1 kilobyte is 1,000 bytes, not 1,024. Drive makers count this way. Windows counts in steps of 1,024 but still writes GB, so a drive looks smaller there.
  • Results are shown with up to 10 significant digits. Very large or very small numbers appear in exponent form, for example 1.5e+16.

Questions

Are my values sent to a server?

No. The calculation runs in your browser, on your own device. Nothing you type is sent to us or anyone else.

How do I switch the direction?

Press “Swap”. “From” and “To” change places and the result updates.

Why does my drive show less space than the box says?

The box counts in steps of 1,000, as this tool does. Windows counts in steps of 1,024 and still calls it GB, so it shows a smaller number.
