Energy converter

Convert energy units units online, free and without signing up: kilocalories (kcal), kilojoules (kJ) and kilowatt hours (kWh). Type a value and the result appears as you type, together with the value in every other unit. Nothing is uploaded: the calculation runs in your browser.

Good to know

  • The kilocalorie is the thermochemical one: 1 kcal is exactly 4.184 kJ. One kWh is 3,600 kJ, about 860 kcal.
  • Results are shown with up to 10 significant digits. Very large or very small numbers appear in exponent form, for example 1.5e+16.

Are my values sent to a server?

No. The calculation runs in your browser, on your own device. Nothing you type is sent to us or anyone else.

How do I switch the direction?

Press “Swap”. “From” and “To” change places and the result updates.

How many kilojoules are in a kilocalorie?

One kilocalorie is 4.184 kilojoules. To go from kcal to kJ, multiply by 4.184. To go back, divide by 4.184.
