Data rate converter
Convert data rate units units online, free and without signing up: Mbps (megabits per second) and MB/s (megabytes per second). Type a value and the result appears as you type, together with the value in every other unit. Nothing is uploaded: the calculation runs in your browser.
How to use the Data rate converter
- 1Type your value in the “Value” field
- 2Choose the units in “From” and “To”
- 3Read the result and the table of all units
- One result, and the value in every unit.
What happens to your numbers
- Nothing is uploaded. The calculation runs in your browser, on your own device.
- Every unit at once.A table shows your value in all the other data rate units.
- Works offline.Once the tool has been opened, it needs no connection.
What you can do
- Convert between every pair of the units with one input: “From” and “To” can be any of them.
- See your value in every data rate unit at once in the table below the result.
- Press “Swap” to turn the conversion around.
- Type decimals or negative numbers and see the result as you type.
Good to know
- One byte is 8 bits, so 1 MB/s is 8 Mbps. A 100 Mbps line moves at most 12.5 MB/s. Real downloads are often a little slower because of protocol overhead and the server.
- Results are shown with up to 10 significant digits. Very large or very small numbers appear in exponent form, for example 1.5e+16.
Questions
Are my values sent to a server?
No. The calculation runs in your browser, on your own device. Nothing you type is sent to us or anyone else.
How do I switch the direction?
Press “Swap”. “From” and “To” change places and the result updates.
Why is my download slower than my internet plan?
Plans give Mbps and downloads show MB/s, which is 8 times smaller. A 100 Mbps plan peaks at 12.5 MB/s, and real speeds are usually a bit lower.
