Extract numbers from text

Find all the numbers in a piece of text and get them as a list, one per line. It picks up whole numbers, decimals and negative values from invoices, reports, logs or any pasted text. Free, and nothing is uploaded.

How to extract numbers from text

  1. 1Paste your text with numbers in it
  2. 2Every number appears on its own line in the result
  3. 3Copy the list, or paste it into a spreadsheet
  4. Every number in the text, in order, one per line.

What you get

  • In reading order.Numbers come out in the order they appear. Repeats are kept, not merged.
  • Decimals stay whole.3.14 and 3,14 come out as one number each, not as two pieces.
  • Stays on your device.Your text is searched in your browser and is never uploaded.

What you can do

  • Pick whole numbers, decimals and negative numbers such as -12 or 0.75 out of running text.
  • Keep numbers with grouped digits such as 1,250.50 or 3.5.2 in one piece.
  • Prepare a column of figures from an invoice or report for a spreadsheet.
  • Copy the list, or put it in order with Sort numbers.

Good to know

  • Both the dot and the comma count as part of a number, and nothing is converted. 1.234,56 stays as written.
  • A hyphen directly before digits is read as a minus sign. In a date like 2024-05-01 the result is 2024, -05 and -01.
  • Digits inside words and codes are picked up too: in A12B the number 12 is found.
  • Currency signs, units and percent signs are not part of the result.

Questions

How do I extract numbers from text?

Paste the text. Each number found is listed on its own line, in the order it appears.

Are decimals and negative numbers found?

Yes. 3.14, 3,14 and -7 each come out as one number.

Why does a date give me negative numbers?

A hyphen right before digits is treated as a minus sign. In 2024-05-01 the pieces are 2024, -05 and -01.

Can I sum the numbers?

Not here. Copy the list into a spreadsheet to add it up, or use Sort numbers if you only need them in order.
