What you can do
- Replace every occurrence of a word, a phrase or a character in one go.
- Turn on "Regular expression" for patterns, and use $1 or lt;name> in the replacement to reuse parts of the match.
- Narrow the search with "Match case", "Whole word", and "^ and $ match each line".
- Search across line breaks: Shift+Enter adds a line in the Find or Replace field.
- Leave "Replace with" empty to delete every match.
- Load a text file by dropping it in, then copy the result or send it on to another tool.
Good to know
- The search ignores capitals until you tick "Match case".
- With "Regular expression" off, characters such as . or * are searched as they are.
- An invalid regular expression shows an error message and changes nothing.
- The highlighted preview covers the first 20,000 characters of long texts. The replacement itself is made on the whole text.
- Nothing is stored. Reload the page and the text is gone.
Questions
How do I find and replace text online?
Paste the text, type the word to find and the word to put in its place. The result updates as you type and shows how many replacements were made.
Can I delete a word everywhere?
Yes. Type the word in Find and leave Replace with empty.
Is the search case-sensitive?
Not by default. Tick "Match case" if capitals matter.
How do I replace with a regular expression?
Tick "Regular expression", then write the pattern in Find. In Replace with, $1, $2 or lt;name> insert the captured groups.
Is my text uploaded?
No. Searching and replacing run in your browser on your own device.
