Regex replace
Replace text with a regular expression and see the result before you copy it. Use $1 or a group name to reuse parts of the match, for example to turn 2026-09-24 into 24.09.2026. It runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
How to replace text with a regex
- 1Type the pattern and tick the flags you need
- 2Open "Replace" and type the replacement
- 3Copy the preview
- Your text with every match replaced.
What you get
- Preview as you type. The result and the number of replacements update with every keystroke.
- Groups in the replacement.Use $1, lt;name> for named groups, and amp; for the whole match.
- Nothing is uploaded.Your text is processed by your browser, on your own device.
What you can do
- Replace every match, or only the first one, by switching the "Global" flag.
- Reorder parts of a match: with the pattern (?<year>\d+)-(?<month>\d+)-(?<day>\d+) the replacement lt;day>.lt;month>.lt;year> turns a date around.
- Show how many replacements were made.
- Switch to the Matches view to see what the pattern finds before you replace, and to Explain to read it in plain English.
- Use the other flags too: ignore case, multi-line, dot all, Unicode and sticky.
Good to know
- The tool uses the JavaScript regex flavour, and the replacement follows JavaScript's rules. $ gives a literal dollar sign.
- Without the "Global" flag only the first match is replaced.
- The original text is not changed. You get the new text as a preview, to copy or save.
- For plain text without regex, or with options like whole word, use Find and replace text.
