Shuffle lines

Shuffle lines into a random order: paste a list of names, tasks or quiz questions and get it back mixed up. The shuffle is unbiased and runs in your browser, so your list is never uploaded.

How to shuffle lines of text

  1. 1Paste your list, one item per line, into the Input box
  2. 2Read the shuffled list in the Result box
  3. 3Change the input to shuffle again, then copy the result
  4. The same lines in a random order.

What you get

  • Nothing is uploaded. The lines are shuffled in your browser and never leave your device.
  • A fair shuffle. It uses the browser's secure random numbers, so every order is equally likely.
  • Every line stays whole.Lines are only moved, never changed, merged or dropped.

What you can do

  • Mix up names, tasks, playlists, flashcards or quiz questions.
  • Draw a random order for a raffle or a turn list.
  • Keep your list as it is: only the order changes, the text of each line stays the same.

Good to know

  • Each line is one item. Blank lines count as items too and are shuffled along with the rest.
  • There is no "shuffle again" button: the result is made as you type. Edit the input, for example by adding and removing a character, to get a new order.
  • The shuffle is random, so you will not get the same order twice, and you cannot set a seed.

Questions

How do I randomize a list of names?

Paste the names, one per line, into the Input box. The Result box shows them in a random order.

Is the shuffle really random?

It uses the secure random number generator of your browser with a Fisher-Yates shuffle, so every order has the same chance.

Can I get the same shuffle again?

No. Each run is new and there is no seed to repeat it. Copy the result if you want to keep an order.
