Sepia filter
Give a photo the warm brown tone of an old print with this sepia filter, or tone a whole batch at once. One slider sets how strong the brown is, and the preview follows as you move it. Your browser does the work at full size and does not upload the photos.
How to add a sepia filter to a photo
- 1Drop one or more pictures in, or click to choose them
- 2Move the "Strength" slider until the tone looks right
- 3Press the save button: one picture as a file, several as one ZIP
- Your photos in sepia, at full size
What happens to your files
- Processed on your device.Your browser opens the photos and tones them. They are not uploaded for processing
- Many photos at once.Give a whole stack the same tone and save it as one ZIP
- A clean new file. Each file is written fresh from the new pixels, so it carries no EXIF data, GPS position or preview of the original
What you can do
- Set the strength from 0 (plain grey) to 100 (full sepia). It starts at 80
- At 100 the tone is the classic sepia that the CSS sepia() filter makes. Below that, the brown is mixed over a grey copy of the photo
- Pick "Grey", "High contrast" or "Document" in the same tool when you want black and white instead
- With several pictures, the arrows above the picture show each one in sepia. Tick "Show the original" to compare
Good to know
- The filter starts from a grey copy, so the original colors are gone at every strength
- JPG and iPhone photos (HEIC) are saved as JPG at quality 92. PNG, WebP and other formats are saved as PNG, and see-through parts stay see-through. "-sepia" is added to the name
- Animated pictures and files with several pages don't open here. In a batch they are left out of the ZIP, and the tool names them
- Pictures up to 200 megapixels open on a computer, up to 64 on a phone. Above 50 (16 on a phone) a picture is scaled down first
Questions
How do I put a sepia filter on a photo?
Drop the photo in. It opens in sepia; move "Strength" for more or less brown, then press "Save picture".
Can I add sepia to many photos at once?
Yes. Choose or drop them all together. They all get the same strength, and the save button puts them in one ZIP.
Can I keep some of the original colors?
No. This filter starts from a grey copy of the photo, so the colors are gone at every strength.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Your browser opens the photos, tones them and writes the new files too.
