Flip image
Flip an image to get its mirror image: left to right, upside down, or both. The picture keeps its full size and every pixel. It is processed on your device, not uploaded for processing.
How to flip an image
- 1Drop a picture in, or click to choose one
- 2Press "Flip horizontally", "Flip vertically" or both
- 3Press "Save picture"
- A mirrored copy of the picture, at full size
What happens to your files
- Processed on your device.Your browser opens and flips the picture. It is not uploaded for processing
- Every pixel kept.Flipping only moves pixels around. Nothing gets cropped, scaled or smoothed
- A clean new file. The file is written fresh from the flipped pixels, so it carries no EXIF data, GPS position or preview of the original
What you can do
- "Flip horizontally" swaps left and right, like a mirror. Any text in the picture then reads backwards
- "Flip vertically" turns it upside down as a mirror image. Doing both gives the same picture as a 180° turn
- The result shows on the page as soon as you press a button. Tick "Show the original" to compare
- Put a selfie back the right way round, or mirror a design for an iron-on transfer
Good to know
- JPG and iPhone photos (HEIC) are saved as JPG at quality 92, which costs a little sharpness, as any new JPG does. PNG, WebP and other formats are saved as PNG, which keeps every pixel and the see-through parts. "-flipped" is added to the name
- A phone photo taken sideways is turned upright first, so you flip what you see
- One picture at a time. Animated pictures (GIF, animated PNG or WebP) and files with several pages don't open here, because only the first frame would survive
- Pictures up to 200 megapixels open on a computer, up to 64 on a phone. Above 50 megapixels (16 on a phone) the picture is scaled down first, and the tool tells you
Questions
How do I mirror a picture?
Drop it in and press "Flip horizontally". You see the mirrored picture right away; press "Save picture" to keep it.
What's the difference between flipping and rotating?
Flipping makes a mirror image: left and right (or top and bottom) swap places. Rotating turns the picture without mirroring it. Flipping both ways at once is the same as a 180° turn.
Does flipping lower the quality?
The pixels are only moved, none is changed. A PNG stays the same pixel for pixel. A JPG is saved as a new JPG, which costs a little sharpness.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Your browser opens and flips the picture and writes the new file too.
