Compress video for email
Make a video small enough to attach to an email: under 25 MB for Gmail or 20 MB for Outlook. The tool picks a bitrate and resolution that fit, and tries again lower if the first file is too big. Free, online, and the video never leaves your device.
How to compress a video for email
- 1Drop your video in, or click to choose it
- 2Pick "Email, Gmail (25 MB)" or "Email, Outlook (20 MB)"
- 3Click "Compress" and attach the saved file
- A video under the attachment limit of your mail service.
What happens to your video
- Nothing is uploaded.Your video is compressed by your browser, on your own device.
- Both limits built in.Gmail at 25 MB and Outlook at 20 MB are one choice away.
- Aimed below the limit. The file is planned about 5 % under your target, so it still fits after attaching.
What you can do
- Choose the Gmail (25 MB) or Outlook (20 MB) preset, or type another size in MB.
- Cap the resolution at 1080p, 720p or 480p, which saves a lot of space for a screen recording or phone clip.
- Keep just part of the video with a start and end time.
- See the planned resolution and bitrate before you click "Compress".
- Open MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, M4V, 3GP and TS files.
Good to know
- Mail services count the whole message, not just the video. Leave room for the text and other attachments, or pick a smaller target.
- Attachments are often made a bit larger when sent. The 5 % margin helps, but a lower custom target is safer.
- The result is an MP4 (H.264 and AAC) in most browsers, otherwise a WebM.
- If the video is already under the limit, the tool tells you and does nothing.
- It uses your graphics chip and works best in desktop Chrome or Edge.
Questions
How big can a video attachment be in Gmail?
25 MB. Outlook allows 20 MB. Both are presets in this tool.
How do I send a large video by email?
Compress it here to the Gmail or Outlook size, then attach the new file. For longer videos, trim it or lower the resolution.
Is my video uploaded to your server?
No. It is compressed in your browser on your own device and never sent to us.
Will the quality drop?
A smaller file has less detail, but the tool uses the whole budget for the picture. Trimming the video first keeps more quality.
