- See the time to reach it, in years and months, from what you hold and what you add monthly.
- Try other rates, for example 3.5% instead of the 4% rule of thumb.
- Get a clear message when you have already reached the target.
- Choose Euro, US dollar, Pound or Swiss franc.
Good to know
- The 4% rate is a common rule of thumb, not a guarantee.
- It assumes a constant return, and your monthly saving stays the same. Real returns vary, and fees, taxes and inflation are not included.
- If the target is not reached within 100 years, the tool says so.
- It is an estimate from your own numbers, not financial, tax or investment advice.
Questions
What is a FIRE number?
It is the amount you need so that your yearly spending equals the withdrawal rate of the pot. With a 4% rate it is 25 times your yearly spending.
What is the 4% rule?
A rule of thumb that you can withdraw about 4% of your pot a year. It comes from past US data and is no guarantee.
Does it include inflation or taxes?
No. Use a return after costs and think about inflation in your spending figure.
Is my data sent to a server?
No. The calculation happens in your browser.
