How to calculate a savings goal

  1. 1Enter your goal and what you have already saved
  2. 2Set the assumed yearly interest and the years
  3. 3Read the monthly amount to save
  4. The monthly amount, and how much of the goal interest covers.

What you get

  • Nothing is uploaded. The sum runs in your browser. Your numbers are never sent anywhere.
  • You put in, interest adds.See your own deposits next to the part interest pays.
  • Starting savings count. What you already have grows too, and lowers the monthly amount.

What you can do

  • Get the monthly amount needed to reach a target in a number of years.
  • Include a starting balance that keeps earning interest.
  • See how much you pay in and how much the interest contributes.
  • Get a clear answer if your savings already reach the goal at that rate.
  • Choose Euro, US dollar, Pound or Swiss franc.

Good to know

  • Interest is added monthly, at the yearly rate divided by twelve.
  • It is a projection at a constant assumed return. Real returns vary; fees and taxes are not included.
  • The monthly amount is paid in at the end of each month.
  • It is an estimate from your own numbers, not financial, tax or investment advice.

Questions

How is the monthly amount calculated?

The tool works backwards from the goal: it takes your starting balance with interest off the target and spreads the rest over the months, with interest on each deposit.

What if I enter 0% interest?

Then the amount left to save is simply divided by the number of months.

Why is the monthly amount 0?

Your starting savings, with interest, already reach the goal in the years you gave. The tool shows that instead.

Is my data sent to a server?
