Ideal weight calculator

Find your ideal weight from your height and sex with four classic formulas: Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi. The tool shows each result and the healthy BMI range side by side, in kilos or pounds. Free, and nothing is uploaded.

How to calculate your ideal weight

  1. 1Pick metric or imperial and choose your sex
  2. 2Enter your height
  3. 3Compare the four formulas and the BMI range
  4. An ideal weight range from four formulas and the BMI range.

What you get

  • Four formulas at once.Devine (1974), Robinson (1983), Miller (1983) and Hamwi (1964).
  • A range, not one number. From the lowest to the highest result, next to the healthy BMI range.
  • Nothing leaves your device. The sum runs in your browser. No account, no upload.

What you can do

  • Enter your height in centimeters, or in feet and inches.
  • Choose male or female, as the formulas differ by sex.
  • See the result of each of the four formulas.
  • See the healthy weight range for BMI 18.5 to 24.9 at your height.
  • Read all results in kilograms or pounds.

Good to know

  • The formulas start at 5 feet (152 cm) and add a fixed amount per inch. Below 5 feet the tool warns they are unreliable.
  • They ignore frame size, age and muscle, so a muscular person can be well above the result and healthy.
  • The BMI range is often the more useful guide.
  • It is an estimate, not medical advice.

Questions

How do I calculate my ideal weight?

Enter your height and sex. The tool applies four formulas based on how many inches you are above 5 feet.

Why do the formulas give different answers?

They were made at different times from different data. That is why the tool shows all four and the range between them.

Is ideal weight the same as healthy weight?

Not quite. The healthy BMI range shown under the formulas is wider and is a more common benchmark.

Is it free, and is my data kept?

It is free and needs no sign-up. Your height is worked out in your browser and not uploaded.
