UV checker texture

Make a UV checker texture: a labelled grid from 256 to 8192 pixels that shows stretching and seams on a model's UV map. Pick the cells, the colours and the labels and save a PNG. Free, in your browser, nothing uploaded.

How to make a UV checker texture

  1. 1Pick the size, from 256 to 8192 pixels
  2. 2Choose the cells across, the style and the labels
  3. 3Save the PNG and put it on your model
  4. A square UV checker PNG, ready to apply.

What you get

  • Nothing is uploaded. The grid is drawn by your browser. You do not need to drop any file.
  • Labels you can read.Cells carry letters and numbers, so you can find a spot in your UV map.
  • Sizes up to 8192.From 256 to 8192 pixels, square, as large as most GPUs take.

What you can do

  • Choose a size of 256, 512, 1024, 2048, 4096 or 8192 pixels. The default is 1024.
  • Choose 4, 8, 16 or 32 cells across. The default is 8.
  • Pick a coloured grid or a black and white one.
  • Label each cell, with A1 at the bottom left, to find a place on the model.
  • Each cell has a finer checker inside it, so stretching shows up as squashed or skewed squares.

Good to know

  • The texture is a square. Stretching on the model shows as cells that are not square.
  • Seams show where the pattern breaks or the letters jump across an edge.
  • The grid is drawn right away, so there is nothing to upload and the PNG is made fresh each time.

Questions

What is a UV checker texture for?

You put it on a model in place of its normal texture. If the squares look even, your UVs are fine. If they stretch or squash, the UV map needs work.

What size should I pick?

1024 or 2048 is enough for most checks. Pick 4096 or 8192 if you need to see small cells up close.

What do the letters and numbers mean?

Each cell has a label like A1, with A1 at the bottom left. They help you find the same spot on the model and in the UV map.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The texture is drawn in your browser.
