Texture atlas packer

Pack many images into one texture atlas. You get a PNG sheet and a JSON file with each image's rectangle and UV coordinates, in both glTF and OpenGL order. Set the padding and the largest sheet size. Free, in your browser, nothing uploaded.

How to pack images into a texture atlas

  1. 1Drop the textures or sprites to pack, or click to choose
  2. 2Set the padding, the largest atlas and power-of-two
  3. 3Check the atlas, then save atlas.png and atlas.json
  4. atlas.png and atlas.json with every image's UVs.

What happens to your files

  • Nothing is uploaded.Your images are read and packed by your browser, on your own device.
  • UVs in the JSON.Each image gets its pixel rectangle and its UVs.
  • Padding with bleed.Edges are extended into the padding so filtering shows no neighbours.

What you can do

  • Pack any number of images into one sheet, tallest first, with a table of each image's position and size.
  • Set the padding to 0, 1, 2, 4, 8 or 16 pixels. The default is 2.
  • Cap the atlas at 2048, 4096 or 8192 pixels, and keep its size a power of two if you like.
  • Get UVs two ways: with the origin top left (glTF, DirectX) and flipped, with the origin bottom left (OpenGL).
  • See how full the sheet is and how much video memory it uses uncompressed.

Good to know

  • If the images do not fit in the largest atlas you chose, the tool says so. Pick a bigger limit or fewer images.
  • Images are placed as they are. They are not rotated or resized.
  • Adding an image with the same name as one already there replaces it.

Questions

What is a texture atlas?

One big picture that holds many smaller ones. A game or 3D scene can then draw them with one texture instead of many.

What is in the JSON file?

For each image its name, its rectangle in pixels and its UV coordinates, plus the atlas size and padding.

Why add padding?

Texture filtering blends neighbouring pixels. Padding, filled by stretching each image's edge, keeps images from picking up colour from the next one.

Are my images uploaded?

No. They are packed in your browser and saved on your device.

How it works
