Mail merge to PDF

Mail merge to PDF: take one PDF and a CSV or Excel sheet and get one filled PDF per row, as a ZIP. Fields are matched to columns by name, and you can place text with a column heading in curly braces anywhere on a page. Everything runs in your browser, nothing is uploaded.

How to mail merge into PDFs

  1. 1Drop in the PDF form or letter, then the CSV or Excel (.xlsx) file
  2. 2Match each form field to a column, or place text on the page
  3. 3Choose how to name the files and click Make PDFs
  4. A ZIP with one filled PDF for every row.

What you get

  • One PDF per row.A sheet with 50 rows gives you 50 filled PDFs in one ZIP.
  • Columns match fields.Fields are paired with columns of the same name, and you can change each pairing.
  • Nothing is uploaded. The PDF and the sheet stay on your device, so names and addresses stay private.

What you can do

  • Fill a PDF form once for every row of a CSV, TSV or Excel (.xlsx) sheet. Text fields and other fillable fields are matched to columns by name.
  • Change the matching for each field, or leave a field as it is.
  • Use a letter or any PDF without form fields. Place text on the page and write a column heading in curly braces in it, such as the heading Name between { and }. Each copy gets that row's value.
  • Name each file after a column, such as a name or an invoice number, or after the row number.
  • Flatten the copies so the fields cannot be changed afterwards, and add a date, a tick, a cross or a signature as in the fill-in tool.

Good to know

  • The first row of the sheet is read as the column headings. Each following row makes one PDF.
  • The old Excel format (.xls) cannot be read. Save the sheet as .xlsx or .csv first.
  • The merge fills a PDF you give it. It does not write a letter from a template or send the PDFs by email.
  • Signature and button fields and read-only fields are not filled from the sheet.
  • If two rows would give the same file name, a number is added so nothing is overwritten.

Questions

How do I fill a PDF form from a spreadsheet?

Open the PDF, drop in your CSV or Excel file, check that each field has the right column, and click Make PDFs. You get a ZIP with one PDF per row.

Does it work with a PDF that has no form fields?

Yes. Place text on the page and write a column heading in curly braces in it. Every copy fills in the value from its row.

Are my files and my sheet uploaded?

No. The PDF and the sheet are read and filled by your browser on your own device. They are never sent to us or anyone else.

Can I choose the file names?

Yes. Pick a column to name each PDF by, or keep the row number. The ZIP is named after your PDF.
