Decision maker
A free online decision maker: list your options, then let chance pick one or weigh pros and cons with a score for each option. Handy when you are stuck between two jobs, three restaurants or ten holiday spots. Your options stay in your browser.
How to make a decision online
- 1Type your options one at a time
- 2Choose "Let chance pick" or "Weigh pros and cons"
- 3Add pros and cons with a weight from 1 to 3, if you weigh
- 4Press "Pick one for me" or "Show the best"
- One option picked, or the option with the best score
What you get
- A fair pick.Chance comes from your browser's cryptographic random numbers, every option equally likely
- A score per option.Pros count up and cons count down, each with the weight you give it
- Kept on this device.Options, pros and cons are saved in this browser only and never sent anywhere
What you can do
- Add up to 30 options and remove any of them again
- Let chance pick one option, with a short shuffle before the answer
- Give every option its own pros and cons, each weighted 1 (a little) to 3 (a lot)
- See the score of every option and which one comes out best, or that two are tied
- Come back later: your options, pros and cons are still there in the same browser
Good to know
- You need at least two options before the button shows
- When every option has the same score, the tool says so and suggests adding pros and cons or letting chance pick
- Your list is kept in this browser's storage. A private window or another device starts empty
- Once the tool has been opened, it needs no connection
Questions
Is the random pick really fair?
Yes. Each option is equally likely. The pick uses your browser's cryptographic random numbers, without the small bias a simple calculation can have.
How is the best option worked out?
Each pro adds its weight and each con takes its weight off. The option with the highest total is shown as the best. Equal top scores are shown as a tie.
Are my options sent to a server?
No. Everything you type is saved in this browser on your device and nowhere else.
Can I use it to decide between more than two things?
Yes. Add as many as 30 options. Chance picks from all of them, and pros and cons work for each one.
