Good to know

  • A millimetre (mm) is 1/1,000 of a metre. In print, paper sizes and margins are given in mm. 1 mm is about 3.78 CSS pixels or 2.83 points.
  • A point (pt) is 1/72 of an inch, 0.3528 mm. Print and design software set type sizes in points, and CSS has 1 pt = 4/3 px.
  • Pixels are counted at 96 per inch and points at 72 per inch, as in CSS. That makes 1 pt equal to 1.3333 px. Units like em, rem and pica are not included.
  • Results are shown with up to 10 significant digits. Very large or very small numbers appear in exponent form, for example 1.5e+16.
