ODT to TXT

Convert ODT to TXT online and for free, without an account. Add your file, pick the format to convert to and save the result. Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your browser.

How to convert ODT to TXT

  1. 1Drop your ODT file in, or click to choose it
  2. 2Check that the format to convert to is TXT
  3. 3Start the conversion and save the TXT file
  4. Your file as TXT, saved on your device.

What happens to your files

  • Nothing is uploaded.Your ODT file is read and converted by your browser, on your own device.
  • Free, no account. You do not sign up for anything and you install nothing.
  • No office suite needed. You need neither Word nor LibreOffice to convert ODT to TXT.

What you can do

  • Convert ODT to TXT and save the result as a file on your device.
  • Between Word, OpenDocument, Markdown, HTML and plain text, headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, bold and italic come across.
  • A PDF made from a Word file keeps the fonts, sizes, colors and spacing of the original, set in free fonts of the same width (Calibri, Cambria, Arial, Times, Courier).
  • Take the text out of a PDF and carry it into Word, Markdown, HTML or plain text.

Good to know

  • The OpenDocument text format of LibreOffice and others, an open standard (ISO 26300). Headings, lists, tables, bold and italic are read from it.
  • Plain text with no formatting: no fonts, no bold, no headings. Going to TXT keeps the words and drops the styling; reading TXT starts a new paragraph at each blank line.
  • Pictures do not come across when you convert between document formats. Headers and footers are not carried over to PDF yet.
  • When you convert a PDF to a text format, only its text comes across. A scanned page has no text, so the converter tells you there is nothing to take over.
  • The page has no upload, so there is nothing to delete afterwards.
