Good to know
- The kind of document is told from its contents, so a file with the wrong extension or none works too
- Pictures, text boxes, headers, footers and comments are not carried over yet; the tool says how many were left out
- Files it can't read yet are named: Word 1 and 2 for Windows, Word for Mac, Works databases, Lotus WordPro, AppleWorks and ClarisWorks, Hangul. Old spreadsheets (Lotus 1-2-3, Quattro Pro, Works) open in the Spreadsheet converter
Questions
Are my documents uploaded to a server?
No. They are read and converted by your browser on your own device and are never sent to us or anyone else.
Do I need Works, Word or WordStar?
No. The documents are read right here in your browser, by our own readers for these formats.
Which format should I pick?
PDF to keep or send a document as it looks, Word to go on editing it, a web page to read it anywhere, plain text to search or copy the words.
What if my file can't be read?
The tool says why: a password, or a kind of file it names but can't read yet.
