Good to know

  • Tab-separated values: like CSV, but a tab splits the columns, so commas and semicolons inside a cell need no quoting. Common when you copy cells out of a sheet.
  • Made for fixed pages that look the same everywhere. A spreadsheet saved as PDF is a plain table of each sheet, for reading and printing, not for editing.
  • CSV, JSON and PDF get the values of formulas, not the formulas. Excel and OpenDocument files keep the formulas.
  • A workbook with several sheets becomes one CSV file per sheet, or one JSON object with a key for each sheet.
  • A JSON file is read as a table: nested objects become columns named like a.b.
  • The page has no upload, so there is nothing to delete afterwards.

Is my TSV file uploaded to a server?

No. The file is read and converted by your browser on your own device. It is never sent to us or anyone else.

Can I convert TSV to PDF without Excel?

Yes. The conversion runs in your browser, so you need no Excel, LibreOffice or other spreadsheet program.

What happens to formulas?

Excel and OpenDocument files keep them. CSV, JSON and PDF get the last calculated value of each cell.
