HEX to LCH
Convert HEX to LCH online, free: enter a hex code and get it as lch(), with lightness, chroma and hue. #7C3AED becomes lch(42.23% 98.71 305.25). LCH is CIE Lab in polar form, so you can make a color lighter or duller without its hue drifting the way it does in HSL. The conversion runs in your browser.
How to convert HEX to LCH
- 1Paste your hex code into "Color", such as #7C3AED
- 2Or pick the color with the color picker
- 3Copy the lch() value from the big line
- Lightness, chroma and hue, written as CSS lch()
Why LCH
- Three numbers you can read.L is lightness, C is how colorful the color is, H is the hue angle from 0 to 360
- Ready for CSS.The value is written as lch() with L in percent, the way stylesheets take it
- Nothing is sent anywhere.Your browser works the numbers out on your own device
What you can do
- Turn a hex code, three or six digits, with or without #, into lch() with two decimals
- Compare LCH with OKLCH, which the same list shows: both have lightness, chroma and hue, on different scales
- Copy the Lab value as well, the same color with a and b in place of chroma and hue
- Paste rgb(), hsl() or a CSS color name instead of a hex code
Good to know
- LCH here is CIE LCH with the D50 white, as CSS lch() uses it. It is not the same as OKLCH, although the letters match
- Chroma has no fixed top. Vivid sRGB colors reach values above 100, while grays sit at 0
- For a gray the hue has no meaning and is written as 0
Questions
How do I convert hex to LCH?
Type or paste the hex code into the field. The lch() value appears at once in the big line, and "Copy" takes it. #FFC61A, for example, is lch(83.33% 81.69 82).
What is the difference between LCH and HSL?
Both have a hue, but HSL lightness ignores how the eye sees colors: yellow and blue at the same HSL lightness look very different. LCH lightness follows the eye much more closely.
Should I use LCH or OKLCH in CSS?
Both work in current browsers. OKLCH keeps hues steadier when you change lightness, especially in blues, which is why many new color systems use it. The tool shows both, so you can copy either.
Is my color sent to a server?
No. The conversion happens in your browser. No request is made with your color.
