LCH to HEX
A free LCH to HEX converter: type lightness, chroma and hue, such as 65 40 30, and get the hex code #DE847C. Handy when you have tuned a color in LCH, or found an lch() value in a stylesheet, and need a hex code for a design tool, an email template or older software. Colors outside sRGB get the nearest hex code and a note.
How to convert LCH to HEX
- 1Type L, C and H into "Color", for example 65 40 30
- 2Or paste lch() straight from your CSS
- 3Copy the hex code from the big line
- A six digit hex code that matches your LCH color
How it works
- Hue in any CSS unit.Degrees are the default, and deg, rad, grad and turn are read as well
- Too vivid is handled. When chroma is beyond sRGB, the tool lowers it and keeps lightness and hue
- Nothing is sent anywhere. The numbers are worked out in your browser
What you can do
- Turn LCH into a hex code, from three bare numbers or a full lch() value
- Write chroma as a percentage the CSS way, where 100% stands for 150
- See the RGB, HSL and CMYK of the same color, each with a copy button
- Check how close the nearest CSS color name and Tailwind color are, shown as ΔE (CIEDE2000)
Good to know
- LCH can reach far beyond sRGB. lch(60% 120 250), for example, becomes #00A2C6, the nearest color HEX can hold, and a note tells you the color was moved
- The tool reads CIE LCH with the D50 white, as CSS lch() does. An OKLCH value typed here as bare numbers gives a very different color, so write oklch() around it
- L runs from 0 to 100. A negative chroma is read as 0, which is a gray
Questions
How do I convert LCH to hex?
Type the three LCH numbers or paste lch() into the field. The hex code shows up in the big line right away. lch(65% 40 30), for example, gives #DE847C.
What do I type for the hue?
An angle from 0 to 360: around 40 is red, 90 yellow, 140 green and 290 blue. A unit such as 0.5turn works too.
Why does my LCH color look duller as hex?
Your chroma is higher than sRGB allows for that lightness and hue. HEX can only show colors inside sRGB, so the tool takes the nearest one with less chroma and says so in a note.
Does the converter send my color anywhere?
No. It runs in your browser, and no request is made with your color.
