OBJ viewer

Open an OBJ file in your browser and turn it around. If you drop the .mtl and the texture images with it, the model shows its colours and materials. You see triangles, vertices and the real size without installing anything. Nothing is uploaded.

How to view a OBJ file online

  1. 1Drop the OBJ file in, or click to choose it
  2. 2Drag to turn the model, scroll to zoom
  3. 3Read the facts: triangles, materials, size
  4. The model on screen, with its facts.

What happens to your files

  • Nothing is uploaded.Your OBJ model is read by your browser, on your own device.
  • Colours come from the .mtl.Drop the .mtl and the images with the .obj and they are applied from your own files.
  • Size in your unit.OBJ stores no unit, so you choose it and the size updates.

What you can do

  • Drop an .obj with its .mtl and textures, or a whole folder, and see it with its materials.
  • Turn, zoom and move around the model. Wireframe shows the triangles, Grid helps with scale.
  • Read meshes, triangles, vertices, materials and textures.
  • Pick the unit the file is in (mm, cm, m, in or ft) and see the size in that unit and in inches or millimetres.

Good to know

  • OBJ has no animations. Models with a skeleton or movement belong in GLB or FBX.
  • The viewer takes the .mtl named inside the .obj. If none is named, it uses the one .mtl you dropped.
  • Textures that are not dropped with the model are listed as missing. The model shows in plain material.

Questions

Why is my OBJ grey?

The colours live in the .mtl and the texture images. Drop them together with the .obj, or drop the whole folder.

How big is the model?

OBJ has no unit, so the viewer starts with metres and lets you change it. The size line follows your choice.

Is my OBJ uploaded?

No. The .obj, the .mtl and the images are read by your browser on your own device.

Can I turn the OBJ into GLB or STL?

Yes. The OBJ to GLB and OBJ to STL converters are in the related tools.
