What happens to your files
- Nothing is uploaded.Your WPS file is read and converted by your browser, on your own device
- No old program needed.Documents from Works, Write, WordStar and early Word open again without them
- Footnotes stay notes.Footnotes and endnotes come across as notes, not as loose text
What you can do
- Convert WPS to DOCX and save the result as a file on your device
- Keep bold, italic, underline, alignment, line spacing and tables
- Keep the document's fonts and sizes, set in free fonts of the same width where the original font isn't on your device
- Convert many documents at once and get them back together in a ZIP
Good to know
- The document format of Microsoft Works, the small office suite that came with many home PCs from the late 1980s to 2009
- Word's format since 2007. The old document becomes a Word file you can edit, its footnotes and endnotes real notes again
- The tool tells the kind of document by its contents, so a file with the wrong extension or none works too
- Pictures, text boxes, headers and footers are not carried over yet; the tool says how many were left out
- Files it can't read yet, such as Lotus WordPro or AppleWorks, are named, so you know what you have
Questions
Is my WPS file uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read and converted by your browser on your own device. It is never sent to us or anyone else.
Do I need the program that made it?
No. The conversion runs in your browser with our own readers for these formats, so you need no Works, Word, WordStar or other office program.
Does the layout survive?
The text, its formatting, alignment, tables and notes do. Pictures, headers and footers don't, and exact line breaks can differ a little.
