Voice recorder
A voice recorder online, in your browser: record from your microphone and save the recording as MP3, M4A or WAV. The microphone is asked for only when you click "Start recording", and "Stop" lets go of it again. The recording stays in the page until it is saved. Nothing is uploaded.
How to record your voice
- 1Choose MP3, M4A (AAC) or WAV under "Save as"
- 2Click "Start recording" and allow the microphone
- 3Speak, and watch the clock and the level bar
- 4Click "Stop" to end the recording and save it
- A recording named with date and time, saved to your device
What happens to your files
- Nothing is uploaded. The recording is held in the page and turned into a file by your browser, on your own device
- Asked only when you start. The browser asks for the microphone on a click on "Start recording", not before
- Stop lets go of the microphone.Stopping, closing the tool or leaving the page all switch the microphone off
What you can do
- Record from the microphone of your computer or headset and save the result as MP3, M4A (AAC) or WAV (uncompressed). MP3 is preset
- See that it is recording: a red light, the word "Recording", a clock that counts up and a bar that shows how loud the microphone is
- End with "Stop": the recording is turned into the format you chose and saved to your device as recording, followed by the date and time
- Check the result straight away: it shows its size and length and has a player, which does not start by itself
Good to know
- There is no pause button and no editing. Record in one go and trim the start or end afterwards with the Audio cutter
- Closing the tool or leaving the page while it records stops the microphone and keeps nothing. Click "Stop" first
- The microphone needs a secure (https) page and your permission. If the browser has blocked it, the tool tells you to allow it in the address bar
- If the recording cannot be turned into the format you chose, it is saved as the browser recorded it
- WAV is uncompressed, so long recordings become large files. The recorder works best in desktop Chrome or Edge
Questions
How do I record my voice in the browser?
Choose a format under "Save as", click "Start recording" and allow the microphone. Speak, then click "Stop". The recording is saved to your device as MP3, M4A or WAV.
Is my recording uploaded to a server?
No. Nothing is uploaded. The recording is held in the page until it is saved, and your browser makes the file on your own device.
Why does the voice recorder not start?
Most often the microphone is not allowed for this page. Allow it in the address bar and try again. The tool also tells you when no microphone is found or when another app is using it.
Can I pause the recording or cut it?
There is no pause. Stop the recording, then use the Audio cutter to keep the part you want or to cut a part out of the middle.
Which format should I save the recording in?
MP3 plays on practically everything and is preset. M4A (AAC) is small and plays on most phones and players. WAV is uncompressed, which suits editing, and gives the largest file.
