Audio cutter
An MP3 cutter that runs in your browser: mark the part you want on a picture of the sound and keep it, or cut a piece out of the middle. MP3, M4A, OGG and FLAC are cut without re-encoding, so the quality stays as it is. Cut MP3 online, free, and nothing is uploaded.
How to cut an MP3 or other audio file
- 1Drop an audio file in, or click to choose one
- 2Drag the two handles, or type a start and an end time
- 3Choose "Keep the marked part" or "Cut the marked part out"
- 4Click "Cut" and save the result
- The part you wanted, saved with "-cut" in its name
What happens to your files
- Nothing is uploaded.Your audio is read and cut by your browser, on your own device
- The quality stays as it is.MP3, M4A, OGG and FLAC are copied, not encoded again
- You see the sound.A waveform shows the loud and the quiet parts, so you find the right spot
What you can do
- Keep one part of a file: a quote from a podcast, one song out of a long recording, the start of a voice memo
- Take a piece out of the middle with "Cut the marked part out". What comes before and after it is joined into one file
- Set the edges by dragging the handles, by typing times like 1:20 or 0:02.5 into "Start" and "End", or with "Start here" and "End here" while you listen
- Check the cut by ear: with "Keep the marked part" chosen, the player plays the marked part and stops at its end
- Open MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, OPUS, FLAC and WebM files, and the sound of MP4, MOV and MKV videos
Good to know
- Without re-encoding, a cut falls between two encoded pieces of sound. It can land up to 0.03 s off, with FLAC about 0.1 s. A 16-bit WAV is cut exactly to the sample
- A format that cannot be copied is encoded again, and the tool says so before you start
- Title, artist and album tags are carried over into the cut file
- No fade is added at the cut. If the start sounds abrupt, open the result in Fade in/out
- AMR, WMA, AIFF and MIDI files cannot be read. The tool works best in desktop Chrome or Edge
Questions
How do I cut an MP3 without losing quality?
Drop it in, mark the part and click "Cut". The MP3 sound is copied as it is, not decoded and encoded again, so nothing is lost.
Can I cut a part out of the middle of a recording?
Yes. Mark the part and choose "Cut the marked part out" under "What to do". The sound before and after it is joined into one file.
Is my audio file uploaded?
No. The file is read and cut by your browser, on your own device. The tool makes no request with it.
Why is the cut not exactly where I put it?
MP3, M4A and OGG store sound in small pieces, and a copy can only start and end between two of them. The difference is at most 0.03 s, with FLAC about 0.1 s.
Can I make an iPhone ringtone from a song?
Cut the part you want here. Then open the result in the Audio converter and choose "M4R (iPhone ringtone)" under "Convert to".
