Change audio speed
An audio speed changer for lectures, podcasts, voice messages and dictation. Speed up audio to 1.25×, 1.5×, 2× or 3×, or slow it down to half speed. Voices keep their normal pitch unless you switch that off. Nothing is uploaded: the work is done in your browser.
How to speed up audio or slow it down
- 1Drop an audio file in, or click to choose one
- 2Pick a speed from 0.5× to 3× under "Speed"
- 3Leave "Keep the pitch (voices sound normal)" ticked for speech
- 4Click "Change speed" and save the result
- The same recording at the new speed, saved to your device
What happens to your files
- Nothing is uploaded.Your file is read and processed by your browser, on your own device
- Voices stay normal. With the pitch kept, a faster recording is shorter but the speaker sounds the same
- You see the new length. Before it starts, the tool shows how long the result will be
What you can do
- Choose one of eight speeds: 0.5×, 0.75×, 1.25×, 1.5×, 1.75×, 2×, 2.5× or 3×. The tool opens at 1.5×
- Keep the pitch, so voices sound normal at any speed, or untick the box and let the pitch move with the speed, like a tape
- Get through a long lecture or podcast faster, or slow a recording down to follow it word by word
- Save in the format the file already has, or as MP3, M4A (AAC), WAV or OGG (Opus)
- Open MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, OPUS, FLAC and WebM files, and the sound of MP4, MOV and MKV videos
Good to know
- It is made for speech first. With the pitch kept, music with a strong beat can sound a little rough at large changes
- Only the speeds in the list can be chosen. The whole file gets the same speed
- The sound is decoded and encoded again. "Same as the original" keeps the format at a bitrate not below the original's. A FLAC is saved as WAV, which is lossless too
- It works best in desktop Chrome or Edge. We tested it with an hour-long MP3 on a desktop computer
- While it works you see a progress bar with the time left and a "Cancel" button
Questions
How do I speed up an MP3?
Drop the MP3 in, pick a speed such as 1.5× or 2× and click "Change speed". The faster MP3 is saved to your device and plays at that speed in any player.
Does the voice get higher when I speed up audio?
Not while "Keep the pitch (voices sound normal)" is ticked. Untick it and the pitch rises with the speed, the way a tape played too fast does.
Can I speed up a voice message?
Yes. Save or export the voice message to your device first, then drop the file in. OPUS, OGG and M4A files are read.
Can I slow audio down?
Yes. Choose 0.75× or 0.5× (half speed). With the pitch kept, the voice stays at its normal height and only takes longer.
Is my audio uploaded?
No. Nothing is uploaded. The file is read and processed by your browser, on your own device.
