Reverse audio
Reverse audio online: drop a file in and get it back playing backwards, the whole file, last sound first. Use it for reversed speech, a backwards effect in a song or to hear what a recording sounds like the other way round. Nothing is uploaded: your browser does the work.
How to reverse an audio file
- 1Drop an audio file in, or click to choose one
- 2Pick a format under "Save as", or leave it as it is
- 3Click "Reverse" and save the result
- Your recording backwards, "-reversed" in its name
What happens to your files
- Nothing is uploaded.Your audio is read and turned around by your browser, on your own device
- The whole file, backwards. The last sound comes first and the first sound comes last
- The format stays the same."Same as the original" keeps the format, at a bitrate not below the original's
What you can do
- Play a song, a voice message or a sound effect backwards
- Reverse MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, OPUS, FLAC and WebM files, and the sound of MP4, MOV and MKV videos
- Save the result as MP3, M4A (AAC), WAV (uncompressed) or OGG (Opus), or keep the format of the original
- Listen to the result in the player. It also appears in "Results", from where it can go into another tool
- Reverse the result once more and it plays forwards again
Good to know
- The sound is decoded, turned around and encoded again. With MP3, M4A and OGG every new encoding costs a little quality. WAV has no such loss
- A FLAC file is saved as WAV, which is also lossless, because FLAC cannot be written here
- Only the whole file can be reversed. To reverse one part, cut it out first with the Audio cutter
- Title, artist and album tags are carried over. A progress bar shows the time left, and "Cancel" stops the work
- Long WAV files are large, about 10 MB per minute in stereo. The tool works best in desktop Chrome or Edge
Questions
How do I reverse an audio file?
Drop the file in and click "Reverse". The tool turns the whole recording around and saves it in the same format, unless you choose another one under "Save as".
Can I play an MP3 backwards?
Yes. Drop the MP3 in and click "Reverse". With "Same as the original" you get an MP3 again, which plays backwards in any player.
Is my recording uploaded?
No. The file is read and reversed by your browser, on your own device. The tool makes no request with it.
Can I reverse only a part of a file?
Not in one go. Cut the part out with the Audio cutter, reverse that file here, and put the pieces together again with the Audio joiner if you need to.
Does it reverse a video too?
No. From an MP4, MOV or MKV it takes only the sound and saves that backwards as an audio file. The picture is not part of the result.
