Color picker from image
Get the color code from any picture: click a spot in a photo, screenshot or logo and read its HEX, RGB, HSL, CMYK and more, each ready to copy. Free and online, and nothing is uploaded: the picture stays in your browser.
How to get a color from an image
- 1Drop a PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP or AVIF in, or click to choose it
- 2Pick a "Sample": 1 pixel, or the average of 3 × 3 or 5 × 5
- 3Click or tap the spot whose color you want
- 4Press the copy button next to the code you need
- The color as HEX, RGB, HSL and seven more codes
What happens to your picture
- Nothing is uploaded.Your picture is opened and read by your browser, on your own device
- Works with the keyboard.Arrow keys move the cross, with Shift 10 pixels at a time, and Enter takes the color
- Average or single pixel. An average of 3 × 3 or 5 × 5 pixels evens out the noise in photos and the blocks in JPGs
What you can do
- Take a color from a photo, screenshot, logo or scan by clicking or tapping on it
- Read the color as HEX, RGB, HSL, HSV, HWB, CMYK, LAB, LCH, OKLab and OKLCH, each with its own copy button, plus the nearest CSS color name
- Move the mouse over the picture and see the color under the pointer before you click
- Take one pixel or the average of 3 × 3 or 5 × 5 pixels around the spot. See-through pixels are left out of the average
- Keep the last 16 colors you took under "Picked so far", each with its HEX code and a copy button
Good to know
- PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF pictures up to 50 MB and 100 million pixels. Which kinds open also depends on your browser
- A picture larger than 4,096 pixels on its long side is scaled down to that size first, so one pixel there is an average of a few
- A fully see-through spot has no color. The tool says so instead of making one up
- Of an animated GIF only the first frame is shown
Questions
How do I find the HEX code of a color in a picture?
Drop the picture into the tool and click the spot. The HEX code appears at once with a copy button, next to RGB, HSL and the other formats.
Is my picture uploaded?
No. The picture is opened with your browser's own image decoder and read from a canvas on your device. No request is made with it.
Why is the color a little different from what I expected?
Photos have noise and JPG blocks, so pixels next to each other differ. Choose "3 × 3 average" or "5 × 5 average" under "Sample" to get the color of the area instead of one pixel.
Does this color picker work on a phone?
Yes. Tap the picture where you want the color. Seeing the color while you move needs a mouse, but a tap takes the color just like a click.
Can I pick a color from my screen instead of a picture?
Yes, with the Screen color picker, in Chrome, Edge or Opera on a computer. In other browsers, take a screenshot and drop it in here.
