Coordinates converter

Convert coordinates between decimal degrees, DMS, DDM, UTM, MGRS, plus codes and geohash. Type or paste a position in any of these formats and get all the others at once, each with a copy button. Free, online, no sign-up.

How to convert coordinates

  1. 1Type or paste a position, for example 47.8095, 13.0550
  2. 2Read the format the tool recognized
  3. 3Copy the format you need
  4. The same spot in seven formats, side by side.

What you get

  • Any format in.The tool works out whether you typed decimal degrees, DMS, UTM, MGRS, a plus code or a geohash.
  • Seven formats out.Decimal degrees, DMS, DDM, UTM, MGRS, plus code and geohash, each one with a copy button.
  • Nothing is sent. The conversion is plain math in your browser. No coordinates leave your device.

What you can do

  • Paste a position and the tool tells you how it read it, for example "Read as decimal degrees", then lists the same spot in every other format.
  • Plus codes and geohashes are boxes, not points. The tool shows the size of the box, and the converted values are its centre.
  • Choose the "Plus code length" (4 to 13 digits, 10 by default, about 14 m) and the "Geohash precision" (1 to 12 characters, 9 by default).
  • Short plus codes like 9G8F+6X need a nearby place. A "Near (latitude, longitude)" field appears for them.
  • All values use the WGS 84 datum, the one GPS and most maps use.

Good to know

  • UTM only covers 80° S to 84° N. Outside that range the UTM and MGRS lines show a message instead of a value.
  • A coordinate is one point, but a geohash or plus code names an area. Converting back gives the middle of that area, not your original point.
  • Conversions use the WGS 84 datum. Positions from a map in another datum (some old national grids) can be off by metres to hundreds of metres.
  • The tool takes one position at a time. For files with many points, use the geo file converter.

Questions

How do I convert decimal degrees to DMS?

Type the decimal degrees, for example 47.8095, 13.0550. The DMS line appears right away, together with DDM, UTM, MGRS, plus code and geohash.

Do I have to tell it which format I typed?

No. It recognizes decimal degrees, DMS, DDM, UTM, MGRS, plus codes and geohashes by itself and says how it read your input.

Why does my short plus code not work?

Short codes leave out the area. Enter a position near the place, such as a city centre, in the "Near" field and the full code is worked out.

Are my coordinates sent anywhere?

No. The tool runs in your browser and does not make requests with your input.
