Plus code converter
Turn coordinates into a plus code (Open Location Code) and a plus code back into coordinates, including short codes like 9G8F+6X when you give a place nearby. Pick the code length and see how big the area is. Free, in your browser.
How to convert a plus code
- 1Type coordinates or a plus code, for example 8FVC9G8F+6X
- 2For a short code, add a position nearby
- 3Copy the plus code or the coordinates
- A plus code, or the coordinates of its centre.
What you get
- Both directions.Coordinates become a plus code, and a plus code becomes the coordinates of the centre of its area.
- Short codes work too.Give a position nearby, such as a town centre, and the tool works out the full code.
- Nothing is sent. The conversion is done in your browser. No coordinates leave your device.
What you can do
- Encode a latitude and longitude as a plus code. The plus code line is shown first, with a copy button and the size of the area, such as "a box of 14 m × 14 m".
- Decode a full plus code like 8FVC9G8F+6X to its coordinates, or a short one like 9G8F+6X once you fill in "Near (latitude, longitude)".
- Choose the "Plus code length": 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12 or 13 digits. Ten digits, the default, is about 14 m.
- Below it the same spot appears as decimal degrees, DMS, DDM, UTM, MGRS and geohash.
Good to know
- A plus code names an area, not a point, so a decoded position is the centre of that area.
- A short code is ambiguous on its own. The place you give must be near the real location, and the tool then shows the full code it chose.
- It does not look up place names or addresses. For short codes you give coordinates, not a city name.
- Plus codes cover the whole world. UTM and MGRS do not reach the poles, so those lines can show a message near them.
Questions
What is a plus code?
A short location code from Google, also called an Open Location Code, such as 8FVC9G8F+6X. It works without an address and covers the whole world.
How do I turn coordinates into a plus code?
Type the latitude and longitude, for example 47.8095, 13.0550. The plus code appears at once, and you can change its length.
How do I use a short plus code?
Type it, for example 9G8F+6X, and add the coordinates of a place nearby in the "Near" field. The tool completes the code and decodes it.
Does it send my location to Google?
No. The conversion happens in your browser and nothing is requested from any server.
