Extract hashtags and mentions

List every #hashtag and @mention found in a post, caption or export, one per line. Hashtags and handles are collected together, each only once. Free, with no sign-up, and the text never leaves your browser.

How to extract hashtags and mentions from text

  1. 1Paste the caption, post or export
  2. 2The #tags and @handles appear in the result
  3. 3Copy the list
  4. Each #tag and @handle once, one per line.

What you get

  • Both in one go.Hashtags and @mentions are listed together in the order they first appear.
  • Letters from any language.Accents, umlauts and non-Latin scripts are part of the tag.
  • Stays on your device.Your text is searched in your browser and is never uploaded.

What you can do

  • Collect every #hashtag from a social media caption or a pile of posts.
  • Collect @handles to see who was mentioned.
  • Match tags written in German, Dutch, Cyrillic, Greek or other scripts, with digits and underscores.
  • Copy the list, or sort it with Sort lines alphabetically.

Good to know

  • A tag runs until the first character that is not a letter, digit or underscore, so #well-known is read as #well.
  • Duplicates are removed, but capitals count: #Travel and #travel are two entries.
  • The part after the @ in an email address is picked up as a mention. Run Extract emails from text for those.
  • A lone # or @ with nothing after it is ignored.

Questions

How do I extract hashtags from text?

Paste the text. Every #hashtag is listed once, one per line, along with any @mentions.

Can I get only hashtags, without mentions?

Not directly, the tool lists both. Delete the lines that start with @ in the result, or filter them with Find and replace text.

Does it work with umlauts and other alphabets?

Yes. Letters and digits from any language are accepted, so #Frühling or #привет are found whole.

Are repeated hashtags listed more than once?

No. Each one appears once, in the order it first shows up.
