JSON sorter
Sort the keys of a JSON document alphabetically, at every level, and get it back neatly indented. Handy before you compare, diff or commit a config file. Paste or drop your JSON: it is sorted in your browser, nothing is uploaded.
How to sort JSON keys alphabetically
- 1Paste or drop your JSON into the input
- 2Keep the action on "Sort keys" and pick an indent
- 3Copy or save the sorted JSON
- The same JSON with every object's keys in order.
What happens to your JSON
- Nothing is uploaded.Your JSON is parsed and sorted by your browser, on your own device.
- Every level is sorted.Nested objects are sorted too, including objects inside arrays.
- Values stay untouched.Only the order of keys changes. Big numbers keep every digit.
What you can do
- Sort the keys of every object alphabetically, however deeply it is nested.
- Choose the indent for the result: 2 spaces, 4 spaces or a tab.
- Keep the order of items in arrays, since that order carries meaning.
- Show where a syntax error is: the message names the line and column and a caret marks the spot.
- Switch to the other actions of the same tool: format, minify to one line or validate.
Good to know
- Keys are sorted by their characters, so capital letters come before lowercase ones: "Zebra" lands before "apple".
- Only keys are sorted. Items in an array stay in their original order.
- Comments and trailing commas are not valid JSON, so the tool reports them as errors.
- If you only want to check whether two files differ, JSON diff ignores key order without changing anything.
Questions

Paste your JSON and choose "Sort keys". The result shows every object with its keys in alphabetical order.
Are nested objects sorted too?
Yes. Objects at every depth are sorted, including those inside arrays.
Does sorting change my data?
No. The values stay exactly as they are, including large numbers. Only the order of keys changes.
Is my JSON sent to a server?
No. It is sorted in your browser, so nothing leaves your device.
