Reaction time test
Test your reaction time for free in five rounds: wait until the box turns from red to green, then click, tap or press Space. You get your average, median and best time in milliseconds. The result is approximate, because your screen and mouse add their own delay.
How the reaction time test works
- 1Click, tap or press Space to start a round
- 2Wait while the box is red
- 3React as soon as it turns green
- 4Do this five times
- Your average, median and best time over five rounds
What happens to your results
- Runs in your browser.Your times are taken with your browser's own clock, on your device
- Nothing is sent.Your times never go to a server and are not saved when you leave
- Starts right away.Open the page and start
What you can do
- Measure your reaction time over five rounds, each one shown in milliseconds
- See your average, median and best time once the five rounds are done
- React with a mouse click, a tap on a touchscreen or the Space key
- Start a new set of five rounds right after the last one
Good to know
- The wait before green is random, between 1.5 and 4.5 seconds, so you can't guess it
- Clicking before green counts as too soon, and that round starts again
- The time includes your screen's and your mouse's or keyboard's own delay, often 10 to 50 ms. Compare results on the same device
- The words in the box change along with the colour, so the test doesn't rely on colour alone
Questions
What is a good reaction time?
Many adults score somewhere around 200 to 300 ms on a visual test like this. Your result also depends on your screen, your mouse and how awake you are.
Why is my reaction time slower than I expected?
The measured time includes the delay of your screen and your mouse, keyboard or touchscreen, often 10 to 50 ms. Treat the result as approximate.
Why did my round start again?
You reacted before the box turned green. That counts as too soon, and the same round starts over.
Is my score saved?
No. Your times stay in the page and are gone when you close it. Write them down if you want to compare later.
Can I test my reaction time on a phone?
Yes. Tap the box instead of clicking. The touchscreen's own delay is part of the result, as with a mouse.
