Refresh rate test
A free Hz test: see your screen's refresh rate, such as 60, 120 or 144 Hz. The page counts the frames your browser draws over 3 seconds and works out the rate. It is an estimate, because a browser may draw fewer frames than the screen can show.
How to test your refresh rate
- 1Open the tool, the measuring starts by itself
- 2Keep the tab in front for 3 seconds
- 3Read the rate in Hz and the frames behind it
- 4Click "Measure again" after changing a setting
- Your screen's refresh rate in Hz, as the browser sees it
What stays on your device
- Measured in your browser. The page only counts its own frames, nothing is sent anywhere
- Starts right away.Open the page and the measuring starts
- Honest about the number. It says how many frames it counted and how many came late
What you can do
- Measure the refresh rate from the frames your browser draws over 3 seconds
- See the result as a common rate (60, 120, 144, 165, 240 Hz and others) when the measurement is close to one
- See the exact frames a second and how many frames the result is based on
- Measure again with one click, for example after switching your screen to another rate
Good to know
- Browsers may draw fewer frames than the screen can show, for example to save power, in a background tab or on a second screen
- A hidden tab draws no frames. The test pauses and measures again when the tab is back in front
- If many frames came late, it tells you. Close other tabs and measure again
- The test reads the rate, it cannot change it. Set the rate in your system's display settings
Questions
How do I check my monitor's Hz?
Open this page and keep the tab in front. After 3 seconds it shows the refresh rate the browser draws at, such as 60 or 144 Hz.
Why does it show 60 Hz on my 144 Hz monitor?
Often the screen is still set to 60 Hz in the display settings, or the browser is holding back frames, for example to save power. Check the setting, then click "Measure again".
How exact is the result?
It is an estimate from the time between frames. When the measurement is within a few percent of a common rate, it shows that rate, and it also shows the measured value with one decimal.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, it measures the frames the phone's browser draws. Many phones lower the rate to save power, so the result can change from one measurement to the next.
