Remove PDF password

Remove the password from a PDF you can open, so it opens without one, free and online. Type the password once, then save an unlocked copy. Nothing is uploaded: the file never leaves your browser.

How to remove a PDF password

What you can do

  • Open a PDF that asks for a password: you are prompted for it and can try again if it is wrong.
  • "Remove the password" saves a copy that opens without one.
  • Do more in the same screen: add text, reorder pages or compress, then save.
  • Add a new password afterwards under "Change the password", if you want a different one.

Good to know

  • You need the password. This tool doesn't guess or crack passwords.
  • Only use it on files you have the right to open, such as your own.
  • If several PDFs are merged and one has a password, open that one alone first.
  • The saved copy is a new file. Your original keeps its password.

How do I remove the password from a PDF?

Open it, type the password, click "Remove the password" and save. The new copy opens without a password.

Is my password or PDF uploaded?

No. Both stay in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

Can it open a PDF if I forgot the password?

No. You have to know the password. The tool only removes a password you can already open the file with.

Does removing the password change the pages?

No. Text, images and layout stay as they were.
