Scientific calculator
Scientific calculator for your browser: brackets, powers and roots, sin, cos and tan in degrees or radians, log and ln, factorials, π and e. Type the sum with your keyboard or tap the keys, and the answer shows as you type. A memory, the last answer and a list of earlier sums are kept while the page is open.
How to use the scientific calculator
- 1Pick degrees or radians for sin, cos and tan
- 2Type the sum, for example 2sin(30) + √(16), or tap the keys
- 3Press Enter or = to keep the answer
- The answer, kept in the list below for reuse
What you get
- Worked out on your device. What you type is worked out on your device, not uploaded
- The usual order of operations.Powers go before × and ÷, and those before + and −, so −2² is −4
- Exact where it should be.In degrees, sin 30 is 0.5 and sin 180 is 0, not 1.2E−16
What you can do
- Work with brackets, powers (2^10), squares, square and cube roots and 1/x
- Use sin, cos and tan and their inverses, in degrees or radians
- Take log (base 10), ln, e to a power and 10 to a power
- Work out factorials up to 170! and absolute values
- Keep a number in the memory with M+ and M−, and use the last answer with Ans
- Tap an earlier sum in the list to use its answer again
Good to know
- 2π, 3(4+1) and 2sin(30) multiply without a sign. Two plain numbers in a row are refused
- You can type a comma or a point as the decimal sign: 0,5 and 0.5 are the same
- Answers have up to 15 significant digits. Very large and very small ones are shown with E for a power of ten
- tan 90° and the square root of a negative number have no value, and the calculator says so
Questions
How do I switch between degrees and radians?
Use the two buttons above the screen. In degrees, sin(30) is 0.5; in radians, sin(π/6) is 0.5.
Why is −2² equal to −4?
A power goes before the minus sign in front, as in maths books and most calculators. Type (−2)² for 4.
Can I use my keyboard?
Yes. Type the sum, for example sqrt(2) or 5!, press Enter for the answer and Escape to clear.
How does the memory work?
M+ adds the current answer to the memory, M− takes it off, MR puts the memory into the sum and MC clears it.
Is what I type sent anywhere?
No. The sums are worked out on your device, not uploaded.
