SQL minifier

Minify SQL online: strip comments and collapse line breaks and extra spaces so a query fits on one line. Text in quotes and quoted names is left alone. Free, and your SQL never leaves your browser.

How to minify SQL

  1. 1Paste your SQL or drop a text file
  2. 2Choose the "Minify" action
  3. 3Copy the one-line query
  4. The same query on one line, comments removed.

What you get

  • Nothing is uploaded.Your SQL is processed by your browser on your own device.
  • Strings stay intact.Text in 'single', "double" and `backtick` quotes keeps its spaces and line breaks.
  • Comments are removed. Both -- line comments and /* block comments */ are dropped.

What you can do

  • Squeeze a multi-line query into a single line, for a log, a shell command or a code string.
  • Remove -- comments and /* */ comments in the same step.
  • Keep string literals and quoted names exactly as written.
  • Switch the action to "Format" to lay a query out again.

Good to know

  • Comments are deleted, not kept. If a comment matters, such as a database hint, keep a copy of the original.
  • The tool does not check the query. It collapses whitespace and does not validate your SQL.
  • The result is saved as a .txt file.

Questions

Does minifying change what my query does?

No. Only whitespace and comments change. Strings and quoted names stay as they are.

Does it remove comments?

Yes. Line comments starting with -- and block comments between /* and */ are removed.

Is my SQL uploaded?

No. The work is done in your browser.

How do I make it readable again?

Use the SQL formatter, or switch the action to "Format" and pick your dialect.
